I would recommend this book! I've really enjoyed this book, though it may be small and thick it has a ton of information and with use it won't be as stiff.Incredibly helpful in breaking down poses! Please note this book is a guide to how to achieve poses and gives you advise with what poses pair well with others in your flow. It's designed to be a reference book not a step by step flow guide so please don't rate this book based on not supporting a feature it's not designed for.Phenomenal resource for my future RYT-200 training! I went straight to FedEx Office as soon as my book arrived.I can’t belive how much useful information is packed into this pocket-sized book. Everything you want to learn about Yoga postures, finding your spiritual balance in life and learning Sanskrit terms can be found in this definitive little resource. I’m planning on starting my Yoga teacher training next year but didn’t want to go in blind, so to speak. This book is invaluable. Beautiful photos to use for reference along with detailed instructions on how to execute the moves. Fit and Snug for quarters I bought 3 of these for myself and my siblings because my mom has been collecting the state quarters for quite some time now. The quarters fit nice and snug in their compartment and I love how it opens up like a book! It doesn't have a cover or clear sheet to protect the coins but I'm not a "coin collector" and my coins aren't in mint condition, it is just for fun and does the job.Great coin collection book! Other books I have specify the mint and some I just cant find so it frustrates me to have the empty slots. These you need just one of each, which are great for gift giving a full set. I got 4 for each of my friend's grandkids.Poor quality / qa The product is better than I expected BUT, the copy I received is of very poor quality! There were all kinds of scuffs and marks on it and the last page (the info one) is completely warped... as if it was used or water damaged or something. VERY disappointed. If I were buying again, I'd definitely go for a slightly higher priced product. Look at the attached picture. Note that it's not glare or protective plastic but rather the actual shape of the page. Makes it look super cheap. Not even sure if it's worth using and is certainly not worth my time trying to return.

I wish, so sincerely, that I could collect every copy of this book and destroy them all. This book – and the ideology that informs it – is racist, classist, and contributes to the continued marginalization of disenfranchised groups. Having read and studied the book in a graduate teacher education program, my best summary of Payne’s philosophy is: we can fix poverty by teaching poor people to stop acting so poor and uneducated. (Biggest eye roll of all time).
Look up basically any peer-reviewed study or article written by the big voices in multicultural/social justice education. Shortcut: they’re all extremely critical of Ruby Payne’s work. Although she has a reputation with schools as being quite progressive, her work is actually doing a lot of harm. In one study, researchers found that teachers who have been exposed to Payne’s work actually are much more likely to perpetuate racism and classism in their schools.

It also turns out that Payne’s work, unlike the work of her critics, is based on absolutely no real research – she admits that she has not engaged in any structured inquiry, that no data exist to back her theories, and that her work is based on her own casual observations.
Some people take great pains to bash this book but sometimes stereotypes are dead on accurate. I know in this politically correct universe its evil to say some stereotypes are at times reality but, I am not one to care what others think. Yes A Framework for Understanding Poverty 5th Edition does over-simplify a complex subject so it is not a truly scientific work thank goodness. A Framework for Understanding Poverty 5th Edition is not ripe with tedious graphs and ivory tower double speak and politically correct ideals that examined too closely stand for nothing.
Poverty is a mean and ugly subject no matter what the context. Urban poverty is just as ugly and depressing as rural poverty and the suffering both cause is equally debilitating.What recommends this book is that it is easy for a lay person or a qausi professional to read. There isn’t much lying in this book it calls a loser a loser. It calls a bad mother an unfit parent. A Framework for Understanding Poverty 5th Edition is a realistic pragmatic view of poverty that is useful
It would appear that some people want a scientific picture of poverty laden with endless charts, graphs and markers. Some people want a sea of big words that distill poverty down into a souless, equation when poverty is about life most foul and brutal. Poverty is about crushing unfair conditions. Poverty is about making do for yourself and your family on slave wages. Poverty is about people who have veen trained to make the wrong decisions because they have never seen how successful people comprehend and respond to the world in unique and different ways.

This is my favorite book of the year! It’s packed with science-based guidance on how to be a better employee, a better manager, and a better business owner. I’m the founder and CEO of a relatively new company, and this book is now my go-to guide for how to build my business in the most effective way possible. I’m a behavioral scientist myself, with a Ph.D. in Brain and Cognitive Sciences, so I certainly appreciate the value of applied research, but the truth is that I honestly don’t have the time to stay current on all the studies that are published on how to motivate employees, how to hire, how to design effective office spaces, and how to gain a competitive advantage in the knowledge-based economy. This book compiles over 1000 peer-reviewed scientific journal articles, saving me years of time and effort. The best part of the book is the tools guide at the end of each chapter–a little checklist of action items for managers, business owners, and up-and-coming employees. I don’t have to reread the book to make sure that I’m applying its lessons; I can just refer to the end of each chapter to make sure I’m on track. I can’t say enough good things about this book. It’s totally riveting and fun to read. FIVE STARS!
Ron Friedman did us all a favor here. He synthesizes a massive index of academic research, boils it all down into digestible nuggets, and helps us piece together some really interesting insights. What’s more, he shows us why the research matters: It’s one thing to know the research results, it’s another thing to help the reader understand what the results mean. And that’s what Friedman did here. And don’t let the title fool you – this book is not just for managers. This is a book that nearly anyone can benefit from. Whether you are an executive, a ground-level employee, an intern, a student, an academic researcher, a stay-at-home dad or mom, a retiree, or just somebody looking to improve their lot in life, then this book is for you. I personally found value in thinking about how to run my academic lab as a small business – how to motivate my undergraduate research assistants in ways that we both benefit, how to create an atmosphere conducive to excellence, and how to operate in ways that everyone functions at their highest levels of performance. I give this book a hands-down two-thumbs-up. A truly wonderful read, and an admirable way to share science in a way that readers will appreciate, understand, and hopefully apply!
Other things I liked: contextualizing many processes as unconscious and evolved in nature, which does a huge service to the theories behind the results. Reporting studies by sharing the methods and not just the results. Interesting storytelling at the beginning of each chapter that motivates the topic.
This book takes an incredible amount of recent research in several different areas of psychology, recaps it in a style that’s really easy for anyone to understand, and talks directly about how these findings can impact us all at work. The topics cover just about every work-related angle you can think of, including office space design, navigating job interviews, the benefits of office relationships, and even why other things we DON’T always associate with success at work (like sleeping, working out, and screwing up) are actually really important.
Not only is this book really fun to read (I honestly couldn’t put it down until I finished a chapter), but it’s completely practical. There are clear pointers at the end of each section on how you can use this research at your own job. You’ll be able to take something important from this book no matter what field you’re in, or what kind of job you have. It doesn’t matter if you’re a manager, an aspiring manager, or the kind of person who wants nothing to do with management – as long as you HAVE a job (or even if you don’t at the moment, but might like one in the future), you’ll get plenty out of this book.
